Instructions for Ralston Valley Choir auditions
All phases of the audition process may be recorded by audio and/or video

Rhythmic reading will consist of a moderately easy four measure line of rhythm
Patterns used may include: Half, Quarter, Eighth, Sixteenth, Dotted Quarter, Dotted Eighth, Eighth Note Triplets
There will be no rests
Keep a slow steady beat (one beat per second is an ideal tempo Relax and show us what you know
Tonal Memory will consist of eight short (four or five note) patterns played one at a time on the piano.
The singer will sing them back on a neutral syllable such as ‘dah’ or ‘lah’.
These patterns can only be played once for the sake of fairness
Each student auditioning will learn their part to the selected Bach chorale
The audition will be done with the SATB recording played, while the singer sings their part
Sing confidently and strongly Stay with the tempo of the recording
Relax and show us how well you sing in tune with the recorded singers
